Northern California Tournament Registration/Participation Policy
Qualifying Tournaments
Teams may participate in exactly one Northern California Qualifying Tournament.
All Northern California FLL teams deserve an opportunity to participate in a tournament. Due to the large number of teams in our area, we typically have only enough space at the qualifying tournaments to allow each team one opportunity to compete.
In the rare chance that there is excess capacity at a Qualifying Touranment, teams that have already attended a tournament may apply to fill the vacant slot. They will not, however, be eligible to win awards or advance based on attendance at this additional tournament. This option is available only at the discretion of the Qualifying Tournament Director.
Northern California FLL Championship
Teams participating in the Northern California FLL Championship may not participate in any other FLL Championship.
The FIRST LEGO League Coaches Handbook (pg 71) includes a simple
statement regarding awards eligibility at FIRST LEGO League Championships.
" ... teams are only eligible to win an award at the first Championship tournament they attend."Since the Northern California FIRST LEGO League Championship is of fixed capacity, we will not be accepting teams that have registered and/or competed in any other Championship tournaments, except as last minute fill in for cancellations, and only under the condition that no other Northern California team is interested in participating.
The Northern California Qualifying Tournaments serve as a prelude to the Northern California FLL Championship. In essence, attending any of Qualifying Tournaments is a registration to attend the Northern California FLL Championship.
Any team found to have attended and/or registered for any other Championship will be required to forfeit their invitation to the Northern California FLL Championship.
Gracious Professionalism
In the spirit of Gracious Professionalism, any team that is attempting to register for more than one Championship Tournament must clearly identify themselves to all FLL Operational Partners involved.
