Playing @ Learning is focused
on providing creative opportunities for learning through play.
We serve the public by offering
fun, technology-based enrichment activities and outreach with a focus
on programs that are affordable and sustainable.
We believe that sparking an
interest and keeping kids interested in math and science is a key to providing
economic life choices and thus our youth-based activities focus on science,
technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills.
The specific areas that Playing
@ Learning will be focusing on are:
- working with existing school
robotics clubs to expand their programs. Additionally, we will partner
with other schools and community groups to start robotics clubs. The
goal is to create and offer a broad program in a sustainable and ongoing
way.
- developing an "Adopt
A School" outreach program partnership to increase technology awareness
by offering low to no cost after-school, in-school, and community-based
programs in underserved communities. Our initial goal within the first
few years of operation is to develop relationships and start offering
activities at underserved communities working with the school districts.
- partnering with FIRST
to offer FIRST LEGO League events as well as provide
support and administrative structure to the Northern California FLL
program.
- partnering with FIRST
to offer FIRST Tech Challenge events as well as provide
support and administrative structure to the Northern California FTC
program.
- developing additional special
events such as a "Rube Goldberg" contest, a high school FLL-like tournament
and other fun, technology-centered challenges.
- presenting classes to the
community
- providing a volunteer
training and matching service to work with service learning opportunities
through our programs and other similar organizations.
- engaging the community
to foster math and science excellence by motivating business participation,
encouraging parent participation, increasing student's technology
awareness and celebrating achievement.
- partnering with other educational
and/or technology-based groups to increase awareness and leverage the
impact of programs.
